A national holiday in Mexico, Dia de los Muertos is soulful. It celebrates and honors family, remembrance, and the sheer joy of living. Life is a continuum. We look to the past with love and humor. Welcome future lives and loves.
I get much of my inspiration for my Dia de los Muertos images from actual photographs that I take. Puerto Vallarta’s Malecón (beach boardwalk) is filled with enormous Day of the Dead figures and altars on the days leading up to November 2. I visit several times that week during different times of day to take photographs with my point-and-shoot camera. I then bring them to life, imagining them living, breathing and moving.
