I first journeyed to Los Cabos – San Lucas and San Jose in 1984. It was deserted, its unique beauty of desert meets the ocean creating a stunning, magical landscape. I recently returned to find that it has been discovered, filled with tourists enjoying the rare splendor. I returned recently to spent the day with a friend in Lover’s Beach, Playa de los Enamorados. It was a beautiful day of exploring and photo-taking. My husband and I first visited this beach immediately after I produced The Groundlings entry into the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival, Olympic Trials: A Chick Hazard Mystery, an improvised murder starring the incomparable Phil Hartman. We were bone tired and Baja replenished our soul. We stayed at The Twin Dolphins which alas no longer exists. We spent most of a magical day at Lovers’ Beach alone. Later we were joined by Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross on their honeymoon in Los Cabos. There was plenty of room on the beach for two sets of lovers.
Cabo Wall
Enhanced Photograph
Lovers’ Beach is perhaps the most iconic Mexican beach. It is at the tip of the Baja Peninsula and can only be accessed by boat. So romantic! Huge granite rocks, form walls dividing the beach into intimate hideaways designed for love. This special wall has been carved and etched by the salt air, sand and water, creating a natural abstract.
Reach into a hole. There’s a lover’s gift.
A keepsake.
